Mo Yungao sat down beside Zhang Haiqi, who looked at him coldly. This legendary mastermind clearly suffered from long-term insomnia, exuding an air of weakness. Yet, his eyes sparkled with a glass-like, ever-changing brilliance, filled with a sense of transformation.
You couldn’t see through such a person because they had no fixed form.
Mo Yungao caressed Zhang Haiqi’s ear, grasped the base of her ear, and pierced it with a needle, drawing blood that he let drip into a bottle.
As the blood fell into the bottle, the ladybug inside began to run around frantically.
Mo Yungao could hardly believe his eyes. He shook the bottle, causing the ladybug to tumble, get back up, and start flying inside the bottle, continuously crashing against the walls, trying to escape.
Mo Yungao looked at Zhang Haiqi and said, “You really are a member of the Zhang family.”
He collapsed onto the sofa in front of Zhang Haiqi, covering his face, and remained silent for a moment. Then, he knelt down and respectfully bowed his head to her.
Zhang Haiqi did not expect things to develop this way. She looked at Mo Yungao, who knelt without rising, very devoutly, as if witnessing a miracle.
But he didn’t untie her.
There was something psychologically off about him; he really enjoyed performing.
After sitting back down on the sofa, he said, “I’ve studied many texts. The last time an ordinary person caught a member of the Zhang family was during the Ming Dynasty. I don’t know if it’s just a tale, but it’s said that the Zhang family believes that every so often, a contemporary genius will appear, posing a threat to the family.”
“This era has no such geniuses,” Zhang Haiqi replied. “If you can threaten the Zhang family, it’s the Zhang family’s own problem.”
“I’ve heard you’re immortal?” Mo Yungao gazed at Zhang Haiqi’s face.
“Nothing can achieve immortality.” Even the Zhang family has a lifespan; nothing in this world is eternal.
Mo Yungao nodded. “You’re right. But why did Zhang Qishan send you to me? What are you two planning?”
As he spoke, he suddenly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Zhang Haiqi. “It should be easy for you Zhang family members to untie the ropes and handcuffs, right?”
The ropes and handcuffs on Zhang Haiqi were indeed locked tightly.
Zhang Haiqi remained still. “You should ask him. Offering you a deal should be part of the transaction.”
Mo Yungao took out a piece of paper from the side, wrote a telegram, and instructed the guard to send it to Zhang Qishan.
“You’ve caught a member of the Zhang family. Can you refrain from releasing the plague in several places? Let’s have a good talk about what you really want to know.”
Mo Yungao laughed. “You can guess what I’m going to do, right? Ha?” He glanced out the window. “I’m not looking for a member of the Zhang family; you’ve got it wrong. You don’t have the right to make me do so much. The person I want to meet is someone specific.”
Zhang Haiqi looked at him. “How do you know he will definitely appear?”
“Because all the others who appear will disappear. He will know I’m looking for him. As long as you all vanish one by one, I will force him to come out to see me.” Suddenly, a vision of a pile of corpses flashed before Mo Yungao’s eyes.
The corpses began to rise, as if something was trying to emerge from within.
He was momentarily dazed. “Don’t get it wrong; you are not the first member of the Zhang family I’ve encountered. I’ve already met three others. But I respect you. Everything about you will not be wasted.”
Zhang Haiqi looked at him coldly, and Mo Yungao said, “Where is my bodyguard? Why hasn’t he returned yet? You think maybe it’s his first time as my bodyguard, and he got lost in the car?”
Zhang Haiqi’s brow twitched as he noticed that both doors of the carriage were closed and locked electronically. “You’re trying to divert attention. Is there someone impersonating my bodyguard, going to find evidence of my plans?” Mo Yungao said, “Zhang Qishan has always liked these little tricks.”
Zhang Haiqi flexed his wrists, pulling the chain of the handcuffs to its limit; with one more strong pull, it would snap. Mo Yungao continued, “How can I go against the Zhang family? Can ordinary methods be used against me? You won’t get your wish.”
Disguised as a bodyguard, Zhang Haiyan pushed open the door to the next carriage, which was very dark. There were no guards. The telegraph room was located at the back of this carriage.
He struck a match and discovered that the carriage was filled with jars and bottles, each containing various organs, preserved like they were in alcohol.
As he leaned in closer, he saw many jars contained hands, some with very long fingers. Then, he spotted a large jar, which was enormous, containing half a person. The body was pale, having been dead for a long time. He couldn’t tell what method had been used, but this person had a qilin tattoo.
This person had been blown to death.
Zhang Haiyan looked around to see no one was there and lit a cigarette. The match failed to light it and went out.
He struck another match, and in the flickering light, he saw the reflection in the jar, which showed a girl standing behind him.
He turned around and saw a girl who had somehow appeared behind him. She was tall and slender, almost identical to the one he had seen on the Nanan ship.
He was momentarily stunned, realizing something was off; they weren’t exactly the same, but very similar—twins.
“I’ll send a telegraph,” Zhang Haiyan said quietly.
Suddenly, the girl said to him, “Can I have you?”
Zhang Haiyan replied with a grunt, thinking, what’s this? The bodyguard has a thing with this little girl? Is she trying to make a move now?
“The commander is still waiting,” Zhang Haiyan said. “Just a moment.”
The girl insisted, “I want you now.”
Zhang Haiyan stroked the girl’s hair, thinking, good heavens, don’t get into trouble at such a young age. Suddenly, the girl grabbed his hand.
He Jianxi held the money, looking at it in the sunlight. He watched as a smaller person carried a larger one, who in turn carried an even larger person.
What does this mean?
In this sequence, the younger the person, the heavier the burden they bore, meaning they were stronger.
Zhang Haiyan felt a tremendous strength coming from the girl’s hand. This power felt unlike human strength; it was more like that of an animal.
Having fought too many times, Zhang Haiyan immediately sensed something was wrong as soon as he felt the strength.
He quickly opened his mouth, revealing the blade hidden beneath his tongue. The moment the girl was attracted by the blade, Zhang Haiyan tore off his sleeve and rolled backward in a somersault.
As soon as he landed, the girl was already right in front of him, fully prepared, and grabbed his hand again.
“I want your hand first,” the girl said. Zhang Haiyan felt a sudden heaviness in his hand, and his wrist began to deform. He immediately felt pain and, using all his strength, delivered an elbow strike, but the girl slightly sidestepped to avoid it. In an instant, she grabbed his other hand.
